Lovelace kidnaps Clarisse (Clarisse, Veillées litt. ill. 1851 fig17) - Brother
Description
Lovelace leads Clarisse away from the family estate. Clarisse follows, frightened by Leman's shouts: Lovelace's accomplice, posted behind the closed garden gate, makes it look as if the Harlove family is coming. Lovelace has drawn his sword to oppose the enemies; Clarisse does not take her eyes off the door (CH1999I, pp. 540-541, p. 570). The setting of the scene, wall and door, is only sketched here.
