Booklet from the 1775 Salon:

"By M. de la Grenée, Professor.
[...] 13. Tiresias, famous Soothsayer, having once looked at Pallas when she was undressing, went blind on the spot.
14. The Sibyl obtains from Apollo to live as many years as she holds grains of sand in her hand.
These two paintings belong to M. Le Marquis de Very. "

History :

2. Marquis de Véry sale, Dec. 12, 1785, no. 17, of the painting, as well as its counterpart.
Lempertz sale no. 1057, Cologne, Nov. 14, 2015, lot no. 1584.

3. The painting was engraved by Louis Dennel.
During: The Sibyl obtains from Apollo to live as many years as she holds grains of sand in her hand.
