Description
The battle took place in 331 BC on the plain of Gaugamela, near Arbela. It was the last great battle of Darius III, king of Persia, who was defeated by Alexander the Great.
The Persian soldier fleeing in the foreground in the center is the figure of terror in the series on the expression of passions.
