History :
- Signed below the engraving on the left "Invented and painted by Ch. Coypel 1762 ", on the right " engraved by Lépicié 1763 ".
Below the engraving we read: "THALIE CHASSEE PAR LA PEINTURE. | Cette Allégorie a été imaginée au sujet d'une personne qui a sacrifié à l'étude | de la Peinture, le goût qu'elle avoit a composer des pieces de Theâtre." - Engraving acquired by the British Museum in 1876.
- Engraving by F. B. Lépicié, after the painting by Charles Coypel (1732). The latter is now in the Chrysler Museum, Norfolk, Virginia.
