Description

The story of Virginie is told in Book III of Titus Livius' Roman History . It is repeated by Petrarch and Boccaccio.

History :

2. Executed for the Casa Vespucci in Florence.
Bequeathed to the museum by Giovanni Morelli in 1891.
Barbara Deimling mistakenly states that this cassone panel is at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston, probably through confusion with the one in the Lucretia story.
