Description
Under the guise of presenting a petition to the king, the kneeling monk stabs him in the lower abdomen with a knife.
In the background on the right, the king's pious death.
History :
1. Caption in the cartouche: "Vera effigies fr[atris] Jacobi Clement ordinis fr[anciscanor]um predicatorum percussoris Henrici III. Galliarum Regis I. Augusti. M.D.LXXXIX. " (True representation of Brother Jacques Clément, of the Order of Franciscan Preachers, murderer of Henry II, King of France, on August 1, 1589.)
