Description

The 1st plate in this series begins with the kings of the Franks, raised on their bulwarks to be proclaimed kings, and ends with the Norman siege of Paris under Charles the Fat in 885-886.

The saw that cuts the puzzle pieces contours the kings' heads, drawn in medallions between the key scenes of the main reigns.

History :
  1. The 1st plate is signed at the bottom "Lion Editeur. Deposited. Imp. Kat...".
  2. The 3rd plate goes up to the coronation of Napoleon III, in 1852.
    A. Lion hands over the printing business to his son in 1851, but continues to work.
A Lion fils ran this board game factory in tablettery and cardboard from 1851 to 1885, located at 210 rue Saint-Martin in Paris.
