The Burghers of Calais (Montorgueil, Let's Play History!) - Job

Description

When Calais surrendered to King Edward III of England in August 1347, the latter demanded that six burghers, Eustache de Saint Pierre, Jacques and Pierre de Wissant, Jean de Fiennes, Andrieus d'Andres and Jean d'Aire, be handed over to him for execution. At this price, he would let the other inhabitants live. At the Queen's intercession, Edward III finally spared the six burghers of Calais, which remained English until 1558.
