- On the front pedestal: "Jean-Baptiste Poquelin Molière born in Paris in 1622 and died on February 16, 1673"
Signed and dated on the right: "Houdon fecit anno 1778" - N°218 of the 1779 Salon booklet, which states that this bust is from the cabinet of M. de Miromesnil, Garde des Sceaux.
