Description

The inclination here is understood as Michelangelo's inclination for art. It was perhaps commissioned from Artemisia on the strength of a pun on her first name: arte mi sia, may art be mine.

History :

2. Ceiling of the Casa Buonarotti in Florence, created for Michelangelo's great-nephew. Originally, the figure was entirely nude. In 1684, Leonardo Buonarroti, the patron's descendant, hired Baldassare Franceschini, known as Volterrano, to veil her nudity.
