Description
The engraving illustrates scene 13.
The notary has a white dress, a black canvas flap, and a white hat. He brings a small folding table, a cornet, dice, a writing case and paper.
Argentine and Diamantine, the two ladies in dispute, observe the scene in the right background. The four contestants to their matrimonial possession are, on the left, Harlequin, Pierrot, Hanif and Zulima. The ladies will be played by dice.
Hanif, taking the cornet.
To me, presently. (He brings eighteen.)
M. Prud'homme.
Sixteen.
Pierrot, stoned.
What a racket breaker!
Zulima.
Loving Argentina, fate favors my wishes.
