Description

Misericorde, also called patience or credence, is a small console attached to the lower part of the folding seat of a choir stall. It allows the cleric or monk taking part in the divine service to lean on it when standing and his seat is raised. Only part 1 of the story is depicted here: the lady has trapped an over-enterprising Virgil in a basket, and shows him to the townspeople to make fun of him. Virgil the magician's revenge, forcing the Romans to take their fire out of the Lady's ass, had no place in a church...
