Virgil in a basket (St Catherine's Church, Hoogstraten) - Albrecht Gelmers

Misericorde, also called patience or credence, is a small console attached to the lower part of the folding seat of a choir stall. It allows the cleric or monk taking part in the divine service to lean on it when standing and his seat is raised. Only part 1 of the story is depicted here: the lady has trapped an over-enterprising Virgil in a basket, and shows him to the townspeople to make fun of him.
