Eugenio swears to love Virginia (Eugenio, vol.1, Pougens, An VIII) - Baquoy after Le Barbier
Notice n°1 sur 2 Notice suivante
Description
Eugenio and Virginia spent their childhood together and have always loved each other. Certain events delayed their wedding, however, as Virginia's mother died a few months earlier, but at last the day of the ceremony approaches and they both enjoy their imminent happiness. On the eve of this long-awaited day, they take a walk in a flowering bocage and declare their passion for each other. The moment is symbolically important, as the wedding will never actually take place: the death of Eugenio's father will put an end to their romance. But still full of hope, Eugenio kneels before his lover and assures her of his fidelity, which the image signifies with the two characters' initials inscribed in marble and in the bark of a tree behind them.
- Signed below the engraving on the left "Le Barbier inv.", on the right "Baquoy fc."
Legend: "Et moi je jure de ne vivre que pour toi."
