Postquam res Asiae Priamique euertere gentem
immeritam uisum Superis, ceciditque superbum
Ilium, et omnis humo fumat Neptunia Troia,
diuersa exsilia et desertas quaerere terras
auguriis agimur diuom...
(After the gods above had decided to annihilate Asia and the race of Priam who did not deserve this fate, after the fall of proud Ilion, when everywhere rises the smoke in Neptune's Troy, the divine augurs urge us to seek a distant exile.)
Yet, the story of the Trojan horse is found in Book 2.
