Description

The identity of the figure presenting the book in this first folio of the manuscript is mysterious. The red robe and ermine cape could point to a magistrate, no doubt from Bologna if it were confirmed that the manuscript was indeed made in Bologna in the workshop of Niccolò da Bologna.

The facing text constitutes a kind of summary of the Eneid. Two more ornate letters below: Eneas (the E is repeated) and Illi ego...
