Appearance of Venus to Aeneas, illuminated C from Book 2 (Aeneid, Bodleian, MS. Canon. Class. Lat. 52, f12r)

Description

This is more likely to be the appearance before Carthage, recounted in Book 1, than the one in Troy to advise Aeneas to flee, which is the subject of the following illustration. Examination of the various historiated letters shows that the illuminzur does not strictly adhere to the content of each book to be illustrated.

History :
  1. The C in the first line, Conticuere omnes...
  2. Folio 12 recto.
