In the lower foreground the illustrator depicted the audience's diverse reactions.
History :
- Under the engraving, which is unsigned, we read: "Vix Graiam Eumenidis plus terruit Aeschylus urbem", A peine Eschyle avec les Euménides a-t-il plus terrifié la Ville grecque (le public athénien).
- This frontispiece is bound in a composite collection with the original edition of the play, Paris, Ribou, Huet, Mazuel, Coustelier, 1719, which did not include a frontispiece.
