Description
This is not in fact the modest temple of Minerva Medica, located in Republican times on the Esquiline, mentioned by Cicero in the De diviniatione, II, 123: this temple has disappeared.
It was Pirro Ligorio, at the end of the 16th century, who identified these imposing ruins, which are in fact the ruins of a late antique nymphaeum, with the ruins of the temple of Minerva Medica.
