Description

Paul and Louise, two orphans raised together on a farm not far from the Marquise de Belbonne's château, fall in love and plan to marry. While standing at the edge of a wall in the woods surrounding the marquise's property, they are surprised by Abbé Bardot, a malevolent character who stirs up trouble whenever he gets the chance, and who believes he has discovered a compromising secret. Surprised, Louise makes a false move that unintentionally causes Paul to fall.

In the picture, he lies at the foot of the wall, while Louise, alarmed, stretches out her arms towards him. Abbé Bardot briefly observes the scene before fleeing as quickly as he appeared.
