Description

The plate was not originally intended as a cover for a lock. The keyhole was perforated at a later date.

History :
  1. Signed on the pediment "VALERIUS VI F".
  2. Former collection of Jacob Hirsch, New York. Sold by Leo Mildenberg (Bank Leu, Zurich) to the Museum in 1968.
  3. Molded after one of the engraved crystal plaques from the Medici Eucharistic casket.
