Description
The plate was not originally intended as a cover for a lock. The keyhole was perforated at a later date.
History :
- Signed on the pediment "VALERIUS VI F".
- Former collection of Jacob Hirsch, New York. Sold by Leo Mildenberg (Bank Leu, Zurich) to the Museum in 1968.
- Molded after one of the engraved crystal plaques from the Medici Eucharistic casket.
