Description

Nor more; but fled
Murmuring, and with him fled the shades of night. (Book IV, 1014-1015)

Gabriel and his soldiers have found Satan in Eden. They surround him, and the archangel threatens him with his end if he persists in his senseless rebellion. Satan turns his back and flees.
