Description
Eastward among those trees, what glorious shape
Comes this way moving. (Book V, 309-310)
God sends the archangel Raphael to Adam and Eve to warn them of the coming threat. God doesn't intend to intervene, as He has conferred free will on human beings: if Satan tempts them, it will be by cunning and without recourse to force, so they can repel him if they really want to. By this, God intends to test the obedience of his creations, who have no way of proving their gratitude if they are not tempted, especially as Adam and Eve are warned. If they fall, the blame falls entirely on them.
