Description
The allegory follows the indications of Cesare Ripa's Iconology, in the volume published in 1603: a woman dressed in gold, holding a sphere in her right hand and a serpent in her left; she will also be crowned with flowers.
According to the interpretation proposed by Ripa, before gaining access to knowledge - represented by the sphere and compass - it is necessary to know more about the nature of things, as the snake crawling on the ground does.
