Description
Lovelace leads Clarissa away from the family estate. Clarissa follows, frightened by Leman's shouts: Lovelace's accomplice, posted behind the closed garden gate, makes it look as if the Harlowe family is coming. Lovelace has drawn his sword to oppose the enemies; Clarissa does not take her eyes off the door (CH1999I, pp. 540-541, p. 570). The setting of the scene, wall and door, is only sketched here.
