Description
Lovelace drags Clarissa away from the family estate to the carriage he's prepared to take her. Clarissa follows him, frightened by Leman's shouts: Lovelace's accomplice, posted behind the closed garden gate, makes it seem as if the Harlowe family is coming. Clarissa never takes her eyes off the door (CH1985, p. 379-380; CH1999I, p. 540-541, p. 570).
