Description
Lovelace drags Clarisse away from the family estate to the carriage he's prepared to take her. Clarisse follows him, frightened by Leman's shouts: Lovelace's accomplice posted behind the closed garden gate, he makes it seem as if the Harlove family is coming. Clarisse never takes her eyes off the door (CH1985, pp. 379-380; CH1999I, pp. 540-541, p. 570).
