Notice précédente Notice n°18 sur 20 Notice suivante
Description
Belford is led by the archer and his wife to Clarissa, who is being held at their home for debts. He finds her in a miserable little room, in front of a broken mirror. Dressed in her white satin gown, Clarissa is kneeling in front of the window, dozing over the Bible she was reading (Prévost's translation refers to a book but omits the sentence mentioning the Bible). Belford protests against Clarisse's treatment and demands an explanation from the archer (CH1985, L334 p. 1064-1066; CH1999II, L288 p. 444-445)
