Description
Clarisse, forced to receive a visit from Mr Solmes, whom her family has chosen as her husband, and left alone with him, abruptly leaves the parlor (CH1985, L16 p. 87-88; CH1999I, p. 130-131).
In the foreground on the right, on a small round table, are a teapot, two teacups and a bowl (perhaps for jam). On the floor, near an armchair, is a kettle on its warmer.
