20. Two small pastoral scenes.
Letter from Mathon de la Cour, p. 18:
No. 20. The two small pastorals that follow are very pleasant, one depicting a shepherdess caressing a young shepherd with her hand: they are two children. The shepherd has a look of touching innocence; we only see the shepherdess's head from behind. In the other pastoral scene, a shepherd takes a cage from the lap of a sleeping shepherdess.
History :
- Signed and dated ‘1763 Hallé’
- This painting has a companion piece, La Cage dérobée (The Stolen Cage).
