History :
                                    1. Signed and dated lower left: "J. Vernet f. 1747".
3. Counterpart to the painting "Matin à Castellamare". The same aqueduct and promontory are found in "Le Matin, les baigneuses". Another version of Les Cascatelles de Tivoli, from a different angle, is in the Hague Museum (c. 1748, cat. Ingersoll Smouse, no. 199), and another in the Musée d'Orléans (1753, cat. Ingersoll Smouse, no. 403). A painting of the same dimensions, identical in composition to that in the Hermitage, is preserved in the Petit Palais in Paris, Dutuit collection, under the title "La Cascade" (Ingersoll Smouse, no. 438, dated 1740-1748).
