Description

A company of elegant ladies, on the left, observe the laundresses and bathers of the common people on the right. The originality of the view lies in Vernet's choice of backlighting. The landscape is imaginary, but the lighthouse seems imitated from the one in Naples.

History :

2. This painting and its counterpart were commissioned for the Comte de Luc.
