Description

Pâris gives the Apple of Discord to Venus, crowned by a winged Victory and accompanied by Cupid. On the right, Juno is recognizable by the peacock and Minerva by the arms at her feet. On the left, Mercury with his caduceus. Bottom left, river gods. On the left, next to Mercury, the veiled figure carrying a child's body could be the shepherd who abandons newborn Paris in the mountains on the orders of Hecuba, who had dreamt that she was giving birth to a torch and setting Troy on fire. The figure would be veiled because of his discreet exit from the palace.

History :

1. Signed lower right with the monogram "AB" (I don't see it?)

2. Probably a modello for a print that apparently was never made. Traces of restoration on Venus's face.
Acquired by the museum in 1989.
