3. Rembrandt may have been inspired by the Suzanne by Lastman, his former master, now in Berlin. But the format of Lastman's painting is horizontal, and the old men are shown full-length. Rembrandt's Susanna doesn't protest against the old men, but draws her arms in against herself, following the model of the Venus pudica.
