Description

The Ver-Vert parrot is installed on its perch in the visiting room of the Visitandines de Nevers.

History :
  1. Signed and dated under the engraving in the center: "J. M. Moreau le J. 1807".
    Caption under signature: "From Moulins itself people came to see him / The beautiful Ver-Vert never moved from the parlor."
  2. Drawing inserted in the copy in 3 volumes bound in 7 volumes from the library of Ant.-Aug. Renouard, sale 1854, n°1370 (905F) ; collection Dutuit ; bequest Dutuit to the City of Paris, 1902.
    First edition of Gresset's poem: "Vair vert ou les Voyages du perroquet de la Visitation de Nevers. Poeme heroi-comique, A La Haye. Chez Guillaume Niegard. M.DCC.XXXIV ".
    First edition with 4 plates engraved by Jean-Baptiste Simonet and A. D. Duhamel after J. M. Moreau le Jeune: " Œuvres choisies de Gresset [...], de l'imprimerie de Didot le jeune, A Paris, Chez Saugrain, L'An deuxième [1793] "
    1811: " Œuvres de Gresset, Paris, Ant. Aug. Renouard, M.DCCCXI ", 2 vols. in-8°, 4 plates (different) after Moreau le Jeune.
  3. A Holy Conversation is recognized on the Parlor wall, ironically echoing the parrot's conversation.
