Description

In the left foreground, Theseus in armor, fresh off his ship, meets Phaedra (center) and Ariadne (left) outside their palace in Crete. In the center, he makes his way to the labyrinth, at whose entrance the two sisters await him. On Arianne's side (left), a ring on the wall marks the starting point of the thread. In the center of the labyrinth, Theseus kills the Minotaur. In the background, behind the labyrinth, the Minotaur was ravaging Crete before being trapped in the labyrinth. To the left of the labyrinth, victorious Theseus returns to shore escorted by the two sisters. The boat sets sail again: Theseus has forgotten to change the black sail for the white one. This negligence will cause the death of Aegeus, his father, who is waiting for him in Athens.
