Description

History :

1. Signed and dated "ROMAE 1637 CLA(...)"

2. This canvas had been commissioned by a cardinal of the Medici family, possibly Giancarlo, which explains why Lorrain included the Villa Medici, at Trinité-des-Monts, on the right-hand side of the canvas. 3. A preparatory drawing is in the British Museum (1957-12-14-34).
