The Crystal Palace was a cast-iron and glass exhibition hall, first built in Hyde Park to house the 1851 Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of all Nations. Its designer was Joseph Paxton, who applied the greenhouse construction technique.
Dismantled after the exhibition, it was rebuilt in South London and opened in 1853 as Sydenham Palace.
It burned down in 1936.
