ICONCLASS :

Not to be confused with Lycurgus of Sparta, the legislator.

Lycurgus, king of the Aedonians of Thace, son of Dryas. He routed Dionysus and his Bacchae on Mount Nysa and was punished by Zeus, who either blinded him (Homer's version, Iliad, VI, 130-140, see also Sophocles) or struck him with insanity (the version by Pseudo-Apollodorus, according to whom Lycurgus then killed his son, also named Dryas).
