Résumé :
For the Middle Ages and the Renaissance periods, under what conditions is it possible to use obscene words and obscenities, which are “exogenous” categories for these periods although it is obvious that one encounters representations or discourses entirely analogous to those which will later be qualified as such? This chapter offers some reflections on different research approaches and questions the apparent solution of continuity that thereby tears “modernity” and “classicism” apart.
