Description
Achilles' mother knew her son would die in the war. To save him, she disguised him as a girl and hid him in the palace of King Lycomedes and his daughter Déidamie. To flush him out and lead him to the Trojan War, Ulysses (in turban at center), accompanied by Ajax (crouching, holding shield), disguises himself as a merchant. He offers Déidamie jewels, but also weapons, to which Achilles rushes, betraying his true gender.
