Description
The Saracen Rugiero is momentarily distracted from his passion for Bradamante by Alcina's charms. In the palace where loves flutter amid the clouds, Ruggiero and Alcina, seated on a kind of ottoman at the foot of which putti roll, give each other a rendezvous for the coming night. While Alcina, taking advantage of the interplay of secrets, whispers sweet nothings in Ruggiero's ear, Ruggiero surprises the intrusion of our spectatorial gaze into his intimacy, thematizing the voyeuristic intrusion constitutive of the scenic device.
