1. Description:
A man of manly age, dressed in long black clothes, will be smiling, riding on a cane, holding in his right hand a paper pinwheel, a pleasant toy and pastime for children. Madness is conveniently done in the manner described above: because, according to our way of speaking, being mad is nothing more than doing things without decorum and outside the common usage of men. Therefore, since it is considered wise in the city for a man of mature age to deal with the affairs of the family and the republic, it is reasonable to call madness the alienation from these actions in order to engage in childish and insignificant games, all of which is in accordance with the opinion of Horace Satire. 3. lib. 2. Laughter is easily an indication of madness, according to Solomon's saying; therefore, we see that men considered wise laugh little, and Christ N. Sig., who was the only true wisdom and knowledge, is not recorded as ever having laughed.
