Clarisse menace de se suicider si Lovelace l’approche, tandis que Mme Sinclair, Polly et Sally, complices de Lovelace, manifestent leur émotion. Lovelace reste à distance et Clarisse suspend son geste (CH1985 L281, pp. 945-952; CH1999II, p. 373-381).
