2. Painting commissioned to commemorate the oath to the Charter of 1830 that Louis-Philippe took in the provisional, so-called "wooden" room at the Palais-Bourbon. By decree of September 25, 1830, Interior Minister Guizot organized a competition for the decoration of the Salle des Séances, which included three paintings, including this one. The competition closed on December 1, 1830, and out of twenty-six competitors, seven were shortlisted (E.Devéria, Rouget, Heim, Court, Coutan, Couder, A.Hesse).
. Winner of the 1830-1831 competition, Coutan was awarded the painting, but died before completing it.
Proposed by the estates to the Musées Nationaux and accepted on April 7, 1884. Deposited by the Dépôt des Marbres in Versailles on September 17, 1896.
