Description

The Marquis de St Alban, a French nobleman emigrating to Prussian territory, has received a letter from the lieutenant-general of the King of France's armies, who is dying. Also a victim of the political situation in France, he has been forced to sell his belongings and retreat with his family to a dilapidated house in stark contrast to his rank. Receiving the marquis, he asks him to look after his granddaughter after his death.
