Description
During an embedded narrative detailing the life of the Viscountess de Vassy, she relates that one day when she had fallen asleep on an ottoman after a meal with some of her husband's companions, he had the idea of surprising her by waking her up with musicians. With all the company present and the musicians, he approaches the window where his wife is sleeping and sees that a young man, nicknamed La Jeunesse, is taking advantage of the fact that one of the viscountess's arms is involuntarily extended to kiss her hand. The husband flies into a rage, despite his wife's innocence.
