Cover of the "Boer Strategy" game (jigsaw puzzle, Lunéville, Villard Weil, 1900)
Description
Only the English, recognizable by their red uniforms, can be seen on this cover, while the Boers wore earth-toned khaki clothing.
The English are about to cross a river; their enemy is nowhere to be seen.
The player is on the Boer side. His objective is to implement this invisibility.
1. Bottom left: "Modèle déposé 300/5" (publisher's game reference).
Inside, on the bottom of the lid, is the game explanation:
"The English have so far failed to draw the Boërs into the plains to do battle with them: the latter have always known how to dodge: when you thought they were on the right, they were on the left, and vice versa.
Place the six Boërs, represented in this game by six pawns, on the points where the lines cross, so that no two can be found on the same path, i.e. on the same vertical, horizontal or oblique line.
Note - This problem can be solved in various ways. We enclose only one solution, which should be consulted only when every effort has been made to find it."
3. Villard Weil published two other games about the Boers, The Boers at Ladysmith, ref. 300/1, Game of the Boers and the English, ref. 300/9.
The principle of this game is the same as that of the Game of the Demonstrators.
