"Protesters Game" box cover (jigsaw puzzle, 1895)
Description
The aim of the game is to prevent the protest from getting organized: the player represents the police.
1. Game rules (at the bottom of the lid):
"The police officers have the task of dispersing the demonstrators, a difficult task to fulfill; for, while they separate them on one side, they gather on the other.
Or, in this game, the demonstrators are represented by stars; there's one on each of the 8 rectangles or triangles. The player himself represents the police.
The aim is to form a square and not let two demonstrators meet on the same path, i.e. two stars on the same horizontal, vertical or oblique line.
NOTA. - This game lends itself to a host of combinations; we give only one solution to those who expressly and formally request it."
2. Purchased by Jean and Jean-Pierre Lelièvre.
The image does not reproduce the copy kept at the Mucem.
3. The principle of this "puzzle" type game is the same as that of the Boer game.
