Description
The stork has kidnapped the Baron Major of Falkenhorst, who wanted to forcibly enlist the chimney sweep's son, Father Jacob. She takes the baron back to Germany, all the way to Mainz "where the 901st Pomeranian depot is barracks".
At the Polygon, it's shooting day. The soldiers mistake the stork for an aerostat, similar to the balloon by which Gambetta left Paris besieged by the Prussians. Their orders were to shoot the balloons. At the first bullets, the stork drops the baron, who falls riddled with bullets, "with the joy of seeing that in the 901st the regulations are very much respected."
