Saint Peter and Saint John healing the paralytic - Jean de Troy
Description
Three-stage composition: we enter the image through the woman in the foreground on the left, who serves as both a visual clutch and an allegory of charity, with her blue cloak, the color of faith, and her child playing on her arm.
Charity shows the beggar woman in the background on the right, receiving alms from an apostle. This is the literal interpretation of charity.
Finally, in the third shot, St. Peter with a firm hand lifts up the paralytic: the miracle of the paralytic's healing proposes a mystical interpretation of charity. Saint Peter has no money, but he communicates to the paralytic the energy of faith, which gives him the strength to get up.
